Jon “Skalie” Kalmar gave himself an early birthday present this weekend by becoming the Inaugural Champion of the Manchester Megastack taking home £10,674. Jon who previously finished 5th in the WSOP Main Event for a cool $1,255,069 ended flight2 as chip leader and went from strength to strength finally beating Mick Fletcher HU to take the title and a Palm Beach Seat kindly donated by Genting.
157 runners took to the tables over 2 days providing a very impressive £31,400 prizepool that saw 63 play flight A and 94 flight B. 35 returned for day 2 all with an eye on the 1st prize. Abed Eid became the unfortunate bubble boy leaving 15 guaranteed a payout. Still in the mix along with Jon were illustrious names such as Dave Colclough along with some very well respected North West players.
1st to depart was Mike Sharkey who ran into Gez Hiltons Aces, Next to go was Will McMurray moving in with A10 only to find Gez with Jacks. Zippy thought he had survived when his A3 was looking good against Tony Cartwrights AJ after a 3 landed on the flop however a J on the river saw Zippy finish in 13th. Mona Maqbool finished 12th at the hands of John Exley, and shortly after the dinner break we lost Andy Wright to Jon Kalmar when his pocket Kings were thwarted by Jons AJ with a 5, J,J flop. Tony Cartwright departed in 10th again at the hands of Jon giving us our 1st Manchester Megastack Final Table
Jon went into the Final table with a chip lead and he increased that when taking out John Eadie in 9th place. Dave Colclough hit the rail soon after in 8th to John Exley who then took out Baz Chung for a 7th place finish. After being crippled in a previous hand Gez Hilton departed in 6th and as we went in 5 handed Jon Kalmar was the only player over the 1 million chip count.
Jon added to his stack when sending Jon Exley to the rail in 5th and after Mo Qureshi lost a monster pot against Shoahbe he soon departed in 4th. Mo went in 3rd leaving Mick Fletcher and Jon Kalmar heads up. Heads up lasted 1 hand with Mick Fletcher taking home a very creditable £5,966 leaving Jon a worthy champion and £10,674 richer.
Well done to all that played and made this event such a success. Next month register online or win your seat online and you will be entered in a last longest bet. The winner will find themselves with a very nice $5,000 package to Vegas again courtesy of Genting
